Diversion Programs in Summit County, UT

Juvenile Diversion Programs

Summit County offers alternative sentencing for juvenile offenders, including:

  • Crossroads – This program is the Summit County Juvenile Court’s Drug & Mental Health court. Defendants are referred to the program via the Summit County prosecutor’s office or by the juvenile court magistrate. These programs are reserved for those with a substance abuse disorder (SUD) and/or a mental health disorder.
  • Restorative Justice Committee – This task force includes members of charities, victim advocates, law enforcement and representatives from the prosecutor’s office and juvenile court. The committee makes recommendations for juveniles to provide community restitution without incarceration.
  • Teen Court – The Teen (or Peer) court consists of teens who sit as jury members and advocate on behalf of their peers. Similar to the restorative justice committee, the teen court seeks to find restorative solutions to juvenile delinquency.

Summit County Prosecutor’s Office

The office of the Summit County prosecutor represents juvenile victims and prosecutes juvenile delinquents. The office employs five assistant prosecutors in the delinquency division. This office handles cases where the offender is under 18 years of age, and include crime from minor misdemeanors to aggravated murder.

Depending on the severity of the case, the county may be sent to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas.

Sheriff’s Office in Summit County

The SCSO is the county-wide law-enforcement mechanism for Summit County. The office serves the unincorporated parts of Summit County and less populated cities like Norton and Northfield. The Sheriff’s Office is located in Park City.
